Meetup Groups meet face-to-face to pursue hobbies, network, get support, make friends, find playgroups or even change the world!
Get on the Internet to get off the Internet!
You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
Our primary purpose is to socialize, have fun, and talk with people who share our interests. We are a diverse group, which always makes conversation interesting. Our "standard" Meetup day is the 4th Tuesday of the month, but we vary a lot depending on the event.
Of course we talk a lot, but we do outside things too! You will have opportunities to do more than talk and socialize if you choose to. We have visited the Udvar Hazy annex to the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum - take a look at the photo section at the group shots in front of the Space Shuttle Enterprise. We have watched and discussed fan and professional ST and SF films and have been known to distribute DVDs of them. We have also hosted talks by outside groups. Recently, we hosted a talk by Marc Okrand, the inventor of the Klingon language.
Paul, a Starship Farragut founder, decided to join our group and has recently been joined by Mike and John. Feel free to chat with them about the Farragut - it is their passion. I understand they are still looking for volunteers (here's one of those outside opportunities). We watched their pilot episode at our February 07 meeting and enjoyed it immensely. In Feb 08, we'll watch their lastest release - a movie! Their work is free for downloading from their web site at http://www.starshipfa...
Rich, Dave Mac, Alex, and I are involved in Star Trek: New Voyages. One of us always brings the latest news. New Voyages is a semi-professional film group that is making their answer to the question: What if Star Trek (the original series) had filmed a fourth season? If you have not seen their webisodes, you really do need to download and watch them - they are free. The web site is http://www.startrekne.... The latest eleased repisode features George Takei as he reprises his role as Hikaru Sulu in ST:TOS in a script written by Marc Zicree, a name long familiar to Star Trek fans. This episode is out via streaming video. You can find out more within the New Voyages web site. Visit http://www.startrekne....
Several of us are also heavily involved in local, fan-run science fiction conventions that cater to SF fans - Farpoint (in February) and Shoreleave (in Summer - err, July). We will happily talk about those too, if you want. For more information, visit http://www.farpointco... and http://www.shore-leav... respectively.
If all this sounds interesting to you, then come visit us during one of our Meetups. If you like us, join us! We look forward to seeing you.
