Hi, My name is Travis and I am new.

I hear the new Trek film will be about Star Fleet Academy, featuring a young James T. Kirk.

I don't think that the industry has learned from it's mistakes.

1. Enterprise, for all the good acting talent could not overcome the lame storylines, thefact that it was a "prequill" and the lame opening theme.
2. The past Star Wars "prequills" ,which are either the first or the last of the series, left me and other Sci-Fi fans let down.

The lesson not learned, prequills don't work artisticly or astheticly. Unfortunaly they are
an easy way for the industry to take advantage of fan loyalty. Don't have to invent any new
jargon or weapons or tech, just plug in some standard drama modular stories.

Well I can only imagine what some scenes from a Star Fleet Academy film would be like:
Kirk, picking up chicks at the campus bar... Spock, meditating in Tibet... Scotty, at a keg party... Bones, at an anger managment class?

Now I'm not one to complain about things that have been done. I do have ideas for a Trek
film that would continue into the future of the Trek universe. Lots of bits and pieces. I hope to chat with you all when we meet.

Hey Travis,

Welcome to the group. I can agree in part to your feelings about the idea of a prequil. I did not like Enterprise until the 3rd season and yes the theme song was weak. But I have much faith in Mr. Abrahms ability to turn out a good movie. and I am going through withdrawl now so bring on the attempt. Although I am pulling for a Wraith of Kahn kind of movie.

I would love to see a Trek movie based on one of the other shows (my favorite is DS9) or a completely different storyline based on the Trek Universe.

Hi, Travis.
I agree with the prequel part of your statement and I wasn't terribly happy with Enterprise, although it did get steadily better. I think that Paramount is too fixated on space wars and special effects, which they believe is the reason we are fans. Personally, I felt one of the best episodes of Enterprise was "Shuttle Pod One," which the industry calls an "elevator show." That episode concentrated on character development instead of special effects, which gave us some fabulous insight into Tripp's and Reed's characters and gave us a better understanding of many of their later decisions. I believe that the most important elements of any Star Trek show are humor, great space battles, and character development. The toys and different species are fun, but it's all about the "human" adventure or experience, regardless of the alien species we meet along the way.
I think that a Star Trek show based on Star Fleet Academy could have great potential, but I think Paramount blew it. They should make it into a series and release it about eight years from now. There would be countless storylines, countless opportunities to explore new species, great "elevator show" potential, some of the older characters, who live a very long time (like Spock), could guest star as professors or visiting lecturers, other veterans could appear as alien teachers or groundskeepers, even ancestors of other characters could be met, and of course we could meet all the existing characters in their young adulthood, but, executed properly, the opportunities could be endless!
Just some thoughts adding to yours. I am looking forward to meeting you tonight.
